Simple Pleasures, #18

Today I want to bask in the glory of having our outdoor plants inside for the winter.  That may sound odd, or like more of a pain in the patootie than anything, but I like it.  Besides the obvious challenge of finding ways for our 950 sq ft house to absorb such an intake of stuff, it’s great.  I am surrounded by a small, verdant oasis of life that I otherwise pretty much overlook when it lives outdoors.  I feel a little more… feral.  And cozy.  Is that a paradox?  Whatever, I like it.  Given that most of my outdoor plants that live in pots are cacti or other such succulents, they are particularly receptive to swift deaths out in the unexpected cold.  They’re Texans.  They don’t know what the hell to do out there except expire when it gets like this.  It was 21 degrees last I checked, and that is a mighty variance from normalcy indeed for these parts.  Come on in, ya poor saps!  I might even remember to water you!  And sorry about the inevitable loss of greenery you will suffer.  I’m not going so far as to go out and buy your butts any special lighting.  What’s that?  No complaints?  I love it when plants can’t talk!
