Lately

I’m not promising anything like, say, regular posting, but I do miss you folks here in the Internet.  Times, they are a-changin’ over here in NiColby household.  Not only do we have a full-time toddler on our hands, who, by the way, continues to delight us with her tricks (hey, I’m-a climb this highchair and then pronounce TADA when I get to the top!), but we also have… (drumroll please)… another one a-baking!  It’s early yet, so don’t be holding your breath waiting to find out what sex it’s going to be (that takes like 4 or 5 months) or start knitting anything (unless you’re like me and unlikely to have anything finished before next Easter).  It looks like it will be mid June before we have another bundle of joy on our hands and we couldn’t be more excited!  Colette is clueless, but I do keep telling her that she’s going to be a sister anyways.

I know all you people want is a Colette update, so here’s the juice.  She started a little montessori school recently and she adores it!  It’s great that when we pull up her teeny legs start kicking and her mouth is a perfect “o” proclaiming “OoooOOOoOhoHhHhhh!”.  That’s definitely a good feeling.  We even had our first parent-teacher conference.  I thought to myself, “OK, here we go.  They’re going to judge my child and I will now be hearing a third, unrelated party, tell me in their professional opinion what I need to work on with her.”  And you know what?  I coulda saved myself a trip.  All they did was tell me how great she was.  (Yes, I know, thank you!)  ”Oh, Colette is so sweet and friendly and social, and says hi to everyone and does what we ask her to do, not even some of the older kids do that!”  Sigh.  We live with the perfect, what can I say?  These days she’s working on talking, seems to seriously understand everything that we say, and is generally the cutest ball of energy you’ve ever laid eyes on.  (I’m not biased or anything).  We’ve got the animal noises down, although most of those animals NAMES are as of yet unpronounceable.  Is that a word?  Spell check says yes.

In other news, I am surviving without shopping at Target.  It’s been several months now, and I can safely say that other than large plastic bins (because you know I don’t give money to Wal-Mart either), I’m doing just fine and probably finding even better deals in the process.  Where the heck do I buy things?  Well, kiddo stuff is almost exclusively the Pumpkin Patch, a local children’s resale store.  I could seriously be their advertisement alone.  I love them.  Gently used baby and kid stuff at a fraction of the retail costs.  Brilliant.  Housewares I’ve been finding at Tuesday Morning.  That place, introduced to all of us by our very own mothers, is actually quite the treasure trove of affordable, high-quality stuff.  You just really have to search.

Random post over.  Now I shall go and eat homemade chicken pot pie for lunch.  Come over!
